50 YEARS OF NAVAL CONSTRUCTION

The Company began its activities in 1965, with the manufacture of a serie of models for which the projects had already been developed. These models were continued until 1969, totalling 17 units all between the C-30 sailing boat and motor boats types G-39, G-42 and G-50.

In 1967 ARESA began to have some contacts with different European shipyards, which ended in a technical collaboration agreement with Cantieri Baglietto S.p.A. in 1968. As a result of this collaboration, production of the �??14 M ARESA-BAGLIETTO�?� model was started, 31 units being sold throughout Europe by 1972.

At the beginning of 1970, the Company developed the complete project for the ARESA-12 m. model of which 29 units were produced between 71 and 75, exports representing about 18% of this figure.

In 1972, ARESA became independent from Baglietto and, due to its grown in production, started to extend its installations with the construction of a building for offices, a new bay and the extension of the old bay. By this time, ARESA had acquired a great deal of technical and constructive experience which were consolidated in the production of the ARESA-15 m. This model was under construction until the beginning of 77, following the production of 33 units in all, 12 of which were acquired by the foreign market.

A military launch version of this model was constructed,the PT-37, known as the V-34 in the Spanish Fleet, which is used in marine vatch service for the Spanish Royal Family.

In 71, 72 and 73, 10-metre prototype were constructed and the market and production possibilities studied. The final series was carried out in collaboration with Astilleros Arenys S.A., a total of 9 craft being built up to 1976 when the project was sold to Astilleros Taylor S.A.

The ARESA-19 M project began at the end of 1973, showing results at the beginning of 1975. Of this serie, which is currently being exploited, 13 units were built in several years, 11% of which were exported.

ARESA confirmed itself with this model and reached extremely high levels of quality and attributes.

Also in 1973, the Company started to extend its commercial network with investment in other companies, trying to open its way in the national market even further and ensuring a proper technical assistance network throughout the Spanish coastal areas.

ARESA, continuing its period of expansion, extended its port concession in 1976 by 2.000 m2. 1200 m2. were transformed into bays for construction, workshops and warehouses, equipped with bridge cranes and modern machinery. This same year saw the planning and start of construction of a craft 16 metres in length with a fibreglass hull, presented at the 1977 Boat Show. This hull, which was the largest constructed in Spain in FGRP, was developed on the basis of a double dihedric hull bottom for greater effectivity, both supportwise and speedwise. It is at present on the marketing line, 16 units having so far been constructed, and 30% of production is planned for export.

It was precisely through this model that in 1977 the project arose for a military launch based on the operational experience of the previous PT-37 and on the new technology of the ARESA-16. Of this project our launches were constructed, following a tender for the Spanis Navy, during the years 78, 79 and 80, the supply being maintained during 81 and 83.

In 1978 a contract was signed with the Government of Senegal for the construction of four ARESA 85 S Internal Patrol Launches, which were built in the course of 1979. This project, developed by TECNARESA, opened the way for military craft in the international field. This same year, the Company planned the military version of the ARESA-19 model and studied new military craft of 11 and 13 metres in lenght respectively, based on existing models of yachts.

At the beginning of 1979 and in open collaboration with technical staff of the Spanish Fleet, development began of the ARESA LVE-230 project for a 23 m. external patrol launch made of fibreglass, with a planned speed of 34 knots and a cruising range over 1.000 miles.

Our relations with Tunisia, for the construction of two units, started in 1981.

In 1981, at the request of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the ARESA LVP-150 was developed for supervision of fishing, lifesaving, fire-fighting and ecological safety.

During 1980 the existing design of the ARESA-16 was modified to adapt it more to the market requirements, A fishing boat was also developed, using the hull of the series, opening up good prespects in this field which is new to ARESA.

Now, ARESA´s foreign trade expansion in the military craft market has intensified and the Company has, at present, inquiries in an advanced stage of consolidation with countries in South America, Equatorial Africa, Persian Gulf, North Africa and the Middle East.

During 1980 and 1981 the prototype of an open, polyvalent craft called the ARESA-90, was developed according to the design of the earlier LVI crafts.

At the end of 1982 and in view of the civil guard´s new requirements for coastal patrol, the prototype of the LVI-130 GC was developed, the latter being improved and elaborated on to give the PVC-130 brought out in 1984.

Two sports versions were first made with this hull ´the 13 XM and the 130 FAST´ the former being presented at the 1984 Boat Show.

The tendencies towards high speeds led ARESA´S Technical Department to study a project, based on the bottom of the ARESA-16 XM, which had obtained good results in previous experiences, of an open speed boat, without cabin, that will guarantee high speed combinnated with security. The ARESA-160 FASTwas a result of this, the prototype was floated out in the middle of 1989, carrying out tests at sea with satisfactory results, results above the project´s standards.

At the same time and for other types of uses, with a substantial increase in drift and length, the ARESA-22 MY was projected, based on the TBP-231, a boat conceived for coastwatching and patrol at high sea, with long autonomy and with automatized equipment. Several countries have been interested in these units, contributing suggestions and requirements according to their own needs, which ARESA has accepted, improving its basic project.

In the year 1990, the commercial Sociaty Astilleros Reunidos S.A. was transformed into a new sociaty, named Drassanes d´Arenys S.A. brinding to this new sociaty all the experience of the other sociaty and the aportation of new crew and members, and at the name time continuing its good relation with Tecnaresa S.A.

In the year 1991 Tecnaresa S.A. developed a new project of a passangersmodel, with the special caracterasing as vip the nodel AROL-1700 of 17 metres length realised in colaboration with the design of the navyarchitect Oliver Desing, in which Drassanes d´Arenys S.A.did build several whits, especially for representation services as the ones who entered in service in the year 1992. in the port authoroties of Barcelona and Sevilla.

During the year 1993 Tecnaresa S.A. developed the project of a new model used in the haven, the model ARESA-120 PB, starting fastly the construction in serial for Drassanes d´Arenys S.A. for several corporation of models used in the Spanish haven as Barcelona, and establishes contacts with foreign corporation as Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, entering for the first time in the market of models used in haven.

In the year 1994 Tecnaresa S.A. developed the project of a professional fishing ship for dragging fresh fish, of 25 metres length and 110 tonnes displacement manufactured troughout in PFVR denomated ARESA 25-R of which Drassanes d´Arenys S.A its first unit at the beginning of the year 1995, obtaining a great commercial success in this sector.

In the year 1996 a new version of the model ARESA 25-R was developed with ´castle´ in prow the model ARESA 25-RS and its two less versions the ARESA 22-R and ARESA 22-RS meant the consolidation of Drassanes d´Arenys S.A. in the sector of professional fishingboats construction.

In the beginnings of 1997 Tecnaresa S.A.has developed several versions of passangerboats type Catamaran the models ARESA-200 CAT-SLV, ARESA-230 CAT SLV and ARESA-300 CAT SLV, indicating the construction for Drassanes d´Arenys S.A. of one unit of the model ARESA-230 CAT SLV which ended in April 1998.

Today the commercial Sociation Drassanes d´Arenys S.A.continues exploting the existing models as well as sport yachts ( motorised and sailing ) military models, baywatch models and professional fish models, portmodels and passangermodels.

At the some time Tecnaresa S.A. is developing a new project of a passangership ( for 400 passangers ) and 33 metres length one for a tunarac/fishingboat 35 metres length and 250 tones of displacement and another model of sportfishingboats ( 42 metres of length ) this last are is navadays a construction at patern and prototype for part of Drasanes d´Arenys S.A.

His sociation has navadays its principal equipments in the haven of Arenys de Mar at 40 Km of Barcelona and 110 Km from the bordeline with France, with a direct railway connection between Spain and France and the national hihway II an the higways A-9 and A-7. To our equipments belong 6.000 m2. on which 4.000 m2. Is builded open.
Lasting 2.000m2.for slipway with the possibility to repair at the some time 16 boats of
averal lengths, lasting 100 metres where boats can attrack on, and where a haven crane can lift up more than 50 tones.

In this moment our Sociaty is in a very high position in the national and international market in the categorie 13 up to 25 metres, of the motorized yachts reconized with the bonus Nastro Internationale del Mare from Rome, and the galardon International Sea Ribbon for its high level of quality of its products, up to 35 metres length in professional fishboats, passangers and militaryboats, you can firdthis models in the Jane´s fighting ships , Jearly, and his the commercial catalogs of associations of military interest of the Spanish Government of Defence, where you´ll find it under the number 1758-B.
